The Almanzo & Laura Ingalls Wilder Association will hold its Annual Meeting on January 20, 2018. We’ll meet at the Malone Lodge of Elks on Elm Street in Malone at 9am. We’ll report on the 2017 season and discuss plans for the future. All members and interested persons are welcome to attend. An optional breakfast buffet will be available for $12 per person. Last year’s breakfast, provided by the Elk’s Club, was delicious! Plus, you’ll have an opportunity to see this historic home of Vice President, William A. Wheeler (1877-1881), who was born in Malone.
Special Guest Speaker:
Emmy Award-winning producer Paul Larson of Mountain Lake PBS will give a presentation entitled Pilgrimage: Finding the Real Deal in a Fantasy World. This whimsical, highly visual lecture will take you down the rabbit hole to discover real locations that inspired children’s literature. You’ll explore private spaces (off-limits to tourists) where famous authors lived, including Lewis Carroll, Astrid Lindgren, the Brothers Grimm, and Hans Christian Andersen. Themes include researched, purpose-driven travel and the links between the modern world and literature.
Larson is known as the face of the arts on Mountain Lake PBS-TV. His television segments and documentaries highlight talented people all over New York State, the Champlain Valley, and Quebec, as well as the PBS world at large.
A travel enthusiast, Larson’s interviews have taken him to the Netherlands, England and Israel. His hobby is traveling throughout Europe and the United States to visit places he knows from books and films. He has given presentations on film and literary tourism at Harvard University and Wellesley College.
